Fairless' work is normally teeming with activity. Distant birds are choked by ambient guitars while asynchronous drum kits beat the path forward. Pianos are activated with $1 coins while cacophonous layers of swollen synthesizers and strings fill every possible void.

"Pollen (Killawarra)" strips all the studio trickery away. There is nothing here but grand piano and violin, exposing "Pollen (Killawarra)" as a beautiful singular entity.

"Pollen (Killawarra)" references in its name a place of familial heritage and significance. The Killwarra region is named from the Biripi word for rainforest or scrub. It's where my grandfather lived and made honey with "Killawarra Honey" on the label in his later years. Whilst I'm not Indigenous I recognise the land on which I live, and the land on which my grandfather lived, is Aboriginal land - stolen and never ceded.
