Added by Admin in Autumn 2019 bees and winterizing

January 04, 2019. it was 34°F in the shade and mid 40's in the sun...bees were out full force in cleansing flights....well some of them.

The others it concerned me that they were not out, so I popped the lids to see what they were up to....They were dead from starvation. Not a drop of honey in a double 10 over 10 deep hive box...mild fall, they kept rearing brood late, built up massive colonies and it's been a mild winter...lots of activity which lets them burn up more honey than normal.

Check your hives as often as you can....when there is mild weather and all other colonies are active and there are hives that are not, time to get concerned. Check all your hives for honey stores and supplement feed.
