New River Honey Bees Vlog. What's happening around the farm. In this video I show you how I am winterizing one of my small colonies here at New River Honey Bees. I also show the queen and talk about her breeding a little. This is a healthy, very nice queen, who was laying well all summer long. So I believe her colony is smaller now because she is regulating population in order to be more frugal with winter stores. Some races of honey bees do this. Especially the ones native to colder climates.

CORRECTION: In the video I mentioned that I had crossed this queen with our Caucasian drones, but after going back to check my database I found that I had actually Artificially Inseminated the three virgins from Dorothey with our Canadian Buckfast drones!
