Honey bees swarms have a mind of their own, in this case they left the hive, and returned with more bees.
Honeybees will swarm if they get over crowded in their hive, or if something is wrong inside the hive, like overwhelmed with Veroa mites, hive beetles, wax moths ect. Honey bees can swarm from their hive usually starting in March through October. A bee swarm will almost always have more than one queen so always be on the lookout.
